Passports & Overall Travel

Student travelers and parents will receive the relevant paperwork to apply for passports. In addition, information will be given on payment procedures, student materials, spending money, travel documents needed, travel schedule, rooming, packing, security, money management, health, cultural difference, and Smith/Cole philosophy of student travel.

Oct. 26
Cultural Differences
6 :30
Attendees: Student Only
Students will explore the culturally diverse world of Europe. Differences will be explored and strategies for a positive and enriching journey will be discussed. Students will be introduced to European etiquette, food, and social differences.

Nov. 23
Packing/Dress Code/Suitcase etc..

Attendees: Student Only
Students will be given a “Dress Code 101” course which outlines all the specifics for dress during the 9 day journey. Topics such as suitcase requirements, clothing needed, carry-on, and suggested toiletries will be addressed.

Jan. 25
The Ugly American

Student Only
A primer on “world citizenship” will be shared with student travelers. Topics will include our diverse world, communication tips and pitfalls, Portuguese, Spanish, and French language hints, as well as European exploration opportunities.

Feb. 22
Money & Budgeting

Students and parents will be given the specifics on required security wallets, traveler’s checks, emergency cards, and budgeting for the trip. Students will explore the Euro and understand the conversion rate.

April 26
Packing, Fashion, Shoes, and Carry-Ons
7am-Noon
Attendees: Students
As the exciting departure date approaches, we will look at suitcase requirements, quality walking shoes, and the every important airline carry-on bag. Seasoned student Humanities travelers will be a part of our fashion show to demonstrate appropriate attire.

May 31
Final Rules of the Road
Attendees: Student/Parent
Shifts to be Announced
This final meeting to will review and go over all necessary details of the journey. Topics will include: Travel manners, the journey through customs, travel dress, motor coach protocol, restaurant protocol, hotel protocol, the “Move and Gather” system of travel, room assignments, health release forms, free time protocol, dress procedures, curfews, safety, and travel documents.
